Can I Make It Based On Looks? Talent Too?

$

0
this thread is for people to be completely honest about other soompier's talents and looks
this is like a pre-audition forum very similarly related to kim jae's thread
*btw sorrrryyy i didn't ask you permission for this (:

except in this thread, be a little more specific about yourself
if you have already posted you pictures in kim jae's thread, you don't have to do it again, but if you want to, go ahead.

Name:
Age:
Perferred Entertainment Company:
Nationality:
Height:
Weight: (if you're comfortable enough to put it)
Fun fact/hobbies/anything: (so we could get to know you a little better)
Any experience in any of the fields in entertainment:
Reason why you want to pursue your dream of becoming an entertainer:

*note: it would be a GREAT help if people could take pictures that weren't angled or flipped to the side or whatsoever
also if the pictures weren't edited that would be great too.

if you have time to take the pictures then it would be really good to include:
a full body pic
a picture of your front face
and a picture of your profile view

ALSO
if you have any youtube videos, videos in general, music tracks or anything of you dancing, singing, acting, etc..it would be great too include that so we also could judge you on your talent

As I've mentioned before..this is a 100%completely honest thread. If you can' handle the fact that you think others might judge you on your talents or what you look like, please by all meansDO NOTpost your picture or video up here. If you can't handle this, think first, the entertainment industry is going to be MUCH MUCH harder than the soompier's critiques

THANKS! <3

Non-Asians in Kpop

So, this is my first post on Soompi and I have no idea if I've posted in the right place or not but blah blah I'm going to get on with it anyways haha.

I've seen some threads on soompi about my question and I've seen some pretty harsh responses, some rude, some helpful, but all in all I wanted to start my own to figure it out for myself.

I want to audition for a kpop company. And here's the deal. I'm Portuguese/EuropeanMix. Somehow throughout my life I've befriended MANY asians. My circle of friends is all Vietnamese, Phillipino, and some are Korean. And then there's me. So of course I've been influenced by being around them my whole life. And then I got into Kpop, and it's been a while. And for about 2 years now I've wanted to audition. But I'm not Asian TT_TT And it sucks.

So, does anyone think that it's possible? Should I just give up? Cause... It's kinda my dream. Sing and Dance for people on stage. It's what I want. And I want to promote the Korean culture and the amazing music.

Blaaaah~

:[

*If I've posted this in the wrong place, someone tell me. Pleaaaase. :]

Which Entertainment is best for foreigners?

hello there. (:
idk if there is already such a thread, i couldn't find one so i decided to make a new one.

i'd like to know which company is the best to audition if you're a foreigner, means not korean or chinese.
i'm half thai/half german and wanted to audition for SM's global audition in bangkok a few days ago, but due to some personal problems i couldn't go there and now i'm thinkig about online audition or wait for audition 2014. since i'm not korean or chinese i want to know which entertainment gives the best chances for foreigners or are all of them only looking for korean/chinese people?
i also heard that the korean trainees don't get along well with the chinese ones and look down at them, is that true? this makes me worry a little.
another point is that i'm a bit worried about age, since the rookie bands gets more and more younger and i know that there will be a long training period or at least one year of training time. i'm a 92-liner, do you think this is too old to audition?

would be really nice if someone can help me with this questions. :3

I saw that the old thread was closed by the owner, and I can't seem to find another one, so I thought I'd start it myself XD

In this thread, post your picture(s) and/or video(s) and people will tell you if they think you can get into the company of your choice based on looks alone~

08/04/2009: Okay, so like it's been half a year since I've been to this thread. Wow. Really sorry. I've been super busy going to Seattle, Japan, and being all kinds of ill. XDD

Has anyone passed the second round yet?

I did, but since I can't make any of the live auditions, I have to record it on Ustream. Has anyone done this yet?

I don't know what to do T.T

For all the UK ppl, you guys are so lucky. Jyp will hold their audition in London. I live in Holland, which is kinda next to the UK, but u have to cross a sea. I wanna audition too, but then I have to pay a lot of money for an audition. For the plane/boat/train fee and the hotel costs, I don't think my mom wants me to spent so much money for an audition.

Should I go or not? T.T

I need advice.
I'm pretty sure there are similar questions like this online, but I'll feel better if I ask anyway. So I guess it's time to introduce myself...sort of.

I'm 13 years old in 7th grade going to 8th soon. I live in California. Filipino :D. I LOVE singing and dancing. And I want to be singer/dancer/musician in South Korea. (I want to join SM)

Now for the more detailed stuff...(sorry it's so long =,=)
They both know I sing/dance. I've danced a little bit of Lucifer in front of them (the tutting part) and they got big smiles on their faces...which made me want to dance more for them, but at that time that was all I knew. I wanna keep doing that though. I just want to dance and make them smile again! But it's sort of embarrassing.

BUT! I got up the courage and told her about the whole moving to South Korea today. And how SM pays for the school/living expenses, and what the trainees do. But since mom doesn't know ANYTHING about K-pop music and how companies work she doesn't trust SM Entertainment.

Plus she told me that I won't be able to finish college and that the whole "korean" thing is just an obsession that won't get me anywhere. *big sigh* she's real disappointed (remember we're all Filipino here)....what else can I do to convince her? Should I just try and audition behind her back? Then if I pass try to convince her?(Even though I'll feel real bad)But right now I sort of want to just tell them that I want to go to the Philippines for high school, so over there I'll be able to audition online w/out being discouraged.

I've always been positive about this despite my race/face/and other negative things people said about going down this road and I'm still trying my best to show her. I know this is gonna be a lot of work and that my chances are little, but I REALLY want to do this. So I'm not gonna give up. (Plus she said it MAYBE if we had any relatives there)...she said MAYBE with that exception ^_^ that means she'll be okay as long as there's someone w/ me....at least I think so....but maybe I'm being to hopeful again. lol

Plz give me more advice on what to do!

And I also want to know if I can go to college while doing all this too!
Um...one more thing. I'm sorry for making you read all this >,<' It's just something that I don't know how to go about with. Anyways THANK YOU! :D

SM Weekly Audition in Seoul

my experience :)
So I'm visiting Seoul right now and decided to go for the weekly audition. I got there at around 2:45, and there were sooo many people. The building had 5 floors and I had to go all the way to the 4th floor, which was where the line started. I waited until about 4:15, when I was finally on the first floor again. A woman came around and gave us numbered stickers. I was 295. It was a pretty high number, but sure beat when I was 500-something at the global auditions last year. :D Then, we went in groups of 20 to the basement, where the auditions were happening. They made the 20 of us wait in one of the rooms used for noraebang. A woman came in and gave us the audition forms to fill out and collected them when we were done. We sat there waiting forever, and it was around 5:30 when numbers 281 - 290 were called out to audition. The rest of us (291 - 300) were left in the room waiting again. When we went out, a lady told us not to make any introductions and just to start singing immediately. There was a woman at the table in front of us and another one behind the camera that we had to look into.
The first 3 people to go seemed really nervous and weren't that great, to be honest. xD The girl in front of me, 294, was really pretty and thin, haha. She started to sing, and she was amazing, seriously. *__* She was asked to sing 4 different songs, and she did all of them amazingly, haha. They also told her to push her bangs back and took front and profile shots of her. So after that, you could imagine I was super nervous. Anyway, when it was finally my turn, I sang A Whole New World from Aladdin. Since I don't know any korean, I decided to stick to an english song that everyone knows. My voice was kind of shaky, but I sang up to the break between the 1st and 2nd verse, which was where I blanked out and forgot the lyrics. T____T but thankfully since I was at a pause anyway, it just seemed like I was done, lol. I think the lady wanted me to sing more because she waited for a while before laughing a little and saying "thank you, next". I was pretty embarrassed, lol. The next few people weren't that great, the girl after me was so nervous that her voice barely came out, I felt really bad for her. :( The last guy to sing was asked to stand in the center of the stage cause it was kinda hard to see him all the way on the end. He kept messing up the first words of his song, but the lady was really patient and kept waiting for him to begin properly, but he couldn't and asked to stop, lol.
Then, the lady asked if anyone prepared a cd to dance to (apparently there was no rhythm test...) and lo an behold, the girl in front of me, 294, did. She played the cd and the girl started dancing, and she was amazing also, I was really impressed. After that, we all filed out and left.
I think I did okay, but definitely not great enough to be picked, especially not with 294 in front of me haha. I talked to her a little in the waiting room, and she was really nice too. She asked to borrow my mirror. xD

tl;dr - I think I did okay, but there's no way I'm getting in from today. If anyone from today will get picked, it would be the girl in front of me. But overall, it was a great experience. I'll keep trying again if I ever come back to Seoul, and at the next global auditions. ^^ Good luck everyone!

ALSO, you can critique my looks, too, so I know what I should improve on. ^^

Sorry I havn't made very many updates on here lately...
It's cause the topic died and so I assumed people were no longer interested.

I've noticed that a lot of the discussions in the different entertainment company topics are discussions about auditioning in general rather than on the entertainment companies ...
So I decided to make this topic with an overview of entertainment company's in Korea and also,

Um.. well I'll just start off with several entertainment companies...
If you know of any others, just let me know and give me the address to their main website

Tips for Auditioning in General
(In no particular order)
1. Be Yourself!
2. Dress Appropriately in your video clips.. don't just roll out of bed and film it...
3. Smile image
4. Know about the company you are auditioning for (i.e., their style of music, who their artists are, etc.)
5. Be Confident
6. PRACTICE makes PERFECT!
7. Project, don't make them have to struggle to hear you, but don't sing so loud that you go off pitch.
8. Pick a song that fits your voice and style. Don't just pick a song because you like it, make sure you sound good singing it. Especially if the song is from a singer from that company.
9. Posture! Don't slouch in your videos!
10. Avoid singing songs with long instrumentals
11. Good Quality: mic, video etc
12. Sing everyday... it will keep your voice healthy and strong.. unless you are sick
13. Sing a song that people are familiar with. MANY different people are going to be reviewing your audition, therefore, pick a song that most people will recognize.
14. Be professional. When writing anything in the application forms don't write with slang... basically take the audition seriously...
15. Don't wear too much makeup in your photos. Make sure if you wear any makeup that it looks natural
16. Pick or sing a section of a song that has a wide range (medium - low to medium high). Do songs you are REALLY confident in. You want to sing a song you are sure you can squarely get each note well. Not one where you are 50 50 on a certain high note in that song. [refer to #8]
17. Record/rehearse your singing. Evaluate and fine tune your singing in relations to how your recordings sound like and not how you sound to yourself! What you hear when you sing is not the same of what the audience hear. Internal resonance (hearing youself sing - ear to head) is different to what is presented outside to the real-world (audience).

Additional Tips for Live Auditions
1) Room temperature water is good, (ie, bring a hot water thermostat and cold water).
2) Vocal warmups are crucial. You don't see athletes doing a 100m just like that without warmups. Lip bubbles/tongue trills are enough for 5 mins or so. Body warmups are good too if possible.
3) Always bring mint.
4) Don't intake dairy products, dry chilli or other hot substances prior to performing.
5) Walk in to your audition like a winner, walk out like one regardless if you made it or not(not literally, just be confident). Smile. I don't know about Korean audition environment, but normally, the first step through that door to your (panel of) judges, that confident smile might put a good impression on judges!
6) Be yourself.
7) Don't shout too much the day before.
8) Don't talk too much prior to performing.
9) Plenty of sleep is crucial.
10) If the audition waiting room is cold, and you got nothing to do hum lightly! Keep blood flowing in your vocal folds!
11) Know your lyrics! And bring your lyrics sheet on the day. You'd probably forget the lyrics prior to performance due to nervousness.
12) Take criticism positively. It always helps to improve.
13) Don't ever apologize for anything after the audition
14) Don't ask the "judges" when call backs are or if you are going to be called back.

YG Online Audition - seoul 2010

sharing my experience
so i went to korea this summer
and i applied for the yg online audition this summer.
i surprisingly passed 1st rounds! i made it to live auditions
unfortunately, i didn't pass 2nd rounds =(
so close to becoming a trainee >.<
haha well i'm not giving up!

ok back on track
there were apparently 2 sets of 2nd round live auditions in seoul.
from what one of the guys on the casting team told me,
on sunday july 18th, 12 pm, about 25-30 kids came to audition
and then at 6:30 in the evening, i counted about 18 kids came.
so in total about 40-50 kids were chosen for 2nd rounds out of 5000+ applicants (just for seoul).
The guy also told me that the kids who came in the afternoon were the ones
who were borderline picked
and the kids who came in the evening were the ones who were definitely picked. (i was in that group ^^)

so we went, and exactly at 6:30 pm, the team had everyone line up in front of a table outside the building
and we had to give them our CD (prepared MR of korean, pop and dance music) and show them our ID.
after that, one of the guys on the team takes you to the side and takes a couple of pictures of you.
then we went inside the building basement to wait.
the room was SO nice! there was a black glass waterfall and the team gave us vitamin water.
so we waited until about 7:45 for the audition to start cuz we were waiting for one of the judges to arrive...
IT WAS YANG HYUN SEOK HIMSELF!! (thats the YG president)
because he arrived so late tho, they canceled the dance portion and said they would only hear vocals.
we went in by groups of 3 and its not like those global auditions where its really quick and you
do your stuff and just leave. The President actually takes time to get to know you
and it was really fun!
Although i was nervous cuz i was the last to go in my group of 3
so i actually had to listen to all the ppl be super talented...
i was ecstatic cuz this means that he knows i exist and i actually got the chance to talk to him!
so he basically asked PR questions
What are you good at?
did you take lessons?
what are your hobbies?
etc etc...
then you do your stuff.
i sang gavy nj's theres no such thing as love, and he told me "you sing well." (^^ i was dyingg haha)
then you were dismissed and left.
on the way out, the team gave everyone the yg audition poster!

haha i think i covered everything...
if anyone has any questions, feel free to comment below!

HELLO everybody!
I heard from a lot of people that they wish to get into Korean entertainment companies and become a trainee. But this goal is quiet difficult to achieve. A lot of passionate people are just losing hope toward their dream from audition. I also have a dream to perform in front of others and I'm currently practicing hard to achieve it.
I was thinking of making a girl group with people who have passion to become a star and practice together, follow our dream together. Is anyone interested?
We can practice singing, dancing, making videos etc...

I WANNA HEAR YOUR OPINIONS ! ^^

JYP Online Audition Q&A

Hey everyone!
So i know that we all have been excited about the whole audition.jype.com site ever since last year but for the newbies who just figured it out (aka me) who didnt find out about it til now are wondering whats up with it? audition.jype.com says "Once we receive your video, you will be contacted in 2 weeks if we want you, it will be deleted in 7 days." Now if we check the last video upload it says "2009/11/26". . . .  and todays date is. . . .drumroll please. . . . "2011/1/26". . . . . . wow. hahaha. So even if they do start to check videos, they have to check over a year worth which is 1496 pages. Those of us who are old would like to be accepted as a trainee now before they get any older haha. Also it says "If you sign up in a membership you can recieve feedback." Feedback eh? Who here has gotten feedback.

So this thread is all about audition.jype.com. Have any questions post them here and hopefully someone could answer them for you. (lets start with my questions above first HAHA:D")

So lets get it started :D

Pasmado
